Withdrawal Timelines is free to read. This page explains, in plain English, how the site is paid for and the rules we follow.
Where things stand today
- Ads: yes. Most articles and the home page show ads from Google AdSense. We use Google’s automatic ad placement (Auto ads), so Google chooses the ads and where most of them appear. Google ads carry Google’s own markings (such as the AdChoices icon), and any ad space we add by hand is labeled “Advertisement”. We don’t choose the individual ads you see, and advertisers don’t pay for, see or review our articles.
- No ads on Get Help Now, Dangerous Withdrawals, the withdrawal calculator page, the community forum, the Community Guidelines and the Support page. On the home page, the calculator area is marked so that ads skip it.
- Affiliate links: none at the moment. No page on the site currently earns a commission from a link. The rest of this page sets out the rules any future affiliate links will follow.
- Donations: not yet. See the Support page.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link to a store or product where we would get a small commission if you buy something after clicking it. You pay the same price. The store pays us, not you.
How you would be able to tell
- Any article with affiliate links would show a short note near the top saying so, before the first link, and each paid link would be marked “(paid link)”.
- If we join the Amazon Associates program, this statement will apply: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- The same rules would apply to any other program we join.
Our rules for products
- No product treats withdrawal. We will never link a supplement, pill, kit or program that claims to treat, cure, ease or shorten withdrawal or addiction.
- No affiliate products on dangerous withdrawals. Articles about withdrawals that can be dangerous or need medical supervision (for example alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, barbiturates, GHB and many prescription medicines) carry no affiliate links. The site turns them into plain text automatically if one slips in.
- No rehab or treatment referrals for money. We don’t take payment for sending readers to rehab centers, detox programs, clinics or treatment hotlines. The helplines we list (like SAMHSA and 988) are free public services and we have no financial relationship with them.
- No prescription drugs or online pharmacies.
- We would only link everyday items that are reasonable for anyone, like books, a water bottle or a sleep mask, and only where they genuinely fit the article.
- Ads and commissions never change our timelines, what we say about symptoms, or which sources we cite. See How We Research and Review.
Medical note
Nothing advertised or linked on this site is medical advice or a substitute for care, and an ad is not an endorsement. If you are thinking about stopping a substance or medication, talk to a doctor or pharmacist first. Read our Medical Disclaimer. If you need help now, call SAMHSA at 1-800-662-4357, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
